Summer Team Trip

The trip will depart from Austin at 8am Sunday July 30th from my house (1607B Coronado Hills Dr. 78752). We will drive straight through to New Mexico and be climbing in the Mountains of New Mexico on the 31st.  We will return Tuesday August 8th, probably arriving sometime around 11pm, back at my house. We will have 6 days of climbing two rest days to enjoy in the Mountains near El Rito, NM. We will spend at least one rest day at Ojo Caliente Mineral Hot Springs. Most meals are included except for travel days and rest days.  Max number of participants will be set at 10 and the minimum number of participants needed will be 4. 

What to bring:

  • Around $150 spending cash (travel day and rest day meals and rest day activities)
  • Sleeping bag and sleeping pad
  • Tent
  • Personal toiletry items and towel
  • Personal mess kit (cup, plate, bowl, eating utensils)
  • Clothing and outerwear suitable for Summer time weather in the Rockies/High Desert (it can get cold at night, like low 40’) layering is the key
  • Personal climbing equipment (shoes, harness, chalkbag)
  • At least two 1 liter water bottles
  • Fun active things to do on rest days and books to read
  • Swimwear
  • Personal favorite snack items
  • Running shoes, approach shoes and flip-flops
  • Suitable Climbing/day pack

The deadline to register for the trip is Thursday July 23rd.  Registration= email confirmation that you will be doing the trip. Payment can be made by cash or check (payable to John Myrick). If necessary I can also take payment via Paypal.  Do not hesitate to contact me if you need more information.

Pre-National Training Camp

Nationals Training Camp, Atlanta June 27th-July5th.  The cost will be $300 per person plus $100-$150 spending money for food and rest day activities.  We will drive out to Atlanta on the 27th, train the 28th and 29th, and 30th- then take a rest day on the 1st. Then we will climb on the 2nd, the 3rd, the 4th and then we will drive home on July 5th arriving late that night. 

This will be an excellent opportunity to train at the gym where Nationals will be held.  It does a lot for the kids’ confidence to climb on these walls whether they are going to Nationals or not.  We’ll need at least 6 participants to make this trip happen.  I hope it goes because the trip is very beneficial and a ton of fun!

We will be staying at Ella Gardner's grandparents' house to keep the cost low.

Team ATX End of Year Celebration

Let's celebrate the end of a great year of climbing. Oakley and Adoss's mom Kimberely has offered us the use of her place on the Pedernales River in Johnson City. Hang out for the day on Saturday, or bring your gear and camp out for the night. 

I know it's way in advance, but we wanted to let people know so they could get it on their calendars. 

Heather sent out an evite, so if you didn't get it, shoot her an email.

In true pot luck style, bring whatever ingredients you have on hand and we'll communally cook and see what happens. If you have food sensitivities, please keep that in mind when you're deciding what to bring.

My entire kitchen is available to use at will. I have a fire pit that I put a grill over. If you want to grill on something more conventional then you'll have to bring it.

Also bring coolers and ice, your favorite beverages, an insulated bottle to keep your drinks cold, tents and camping stuff, toys and instruments, dogs who are friendly with other dogs, fishing gear, sunscreen, bug spray, bathing suits, and towels.

Come climb in the wild at Reimers Ranch. Make sure to bring lunch and snacks and plenty of water and sunscreen.  Sign up here. Van leaves John's house at 8 and returns at about 4. Families can also meet the team out at Reimers instead of taking the van.

SCS Youth Regionals - 402 South Central

Registration for Regionals is now open. You must register by 11:59 MST, Sunday, April 30. No exceptions! You can register here

You need two local comps to be eligible. 

If you are attending, make sure to put your name on the google doc so Coach John has a headcount. 

Here's the schedule. Note that while it is a two-day event, each category only climbs on one day. 

Saturday: MD, FD, MB, MA, MJ

Sunday: MC, FC, FB, FA, FJ

The competition is onsight, and the schedule is the same for both Saturday and Sunday. ISO opens at 7:00 am and closes at 8:00 am. Climbing starts at 8:30. The start time for speed climbing will be finalized after registration closes, but the estimate is 2:00 on Saturday and 1:00 on Sunday. Awards will be held each day after speed climbing finishes. The team awards will be announced on Sunday. 

This is going to be a big event, with lots of climbers, especially in the Youth A Girls and Youth B Boys. Kids can potentially be in ISO for a couple of hours, so they should come prepared with plenty of snacks and water and books and games to pass the time. 

We need a ton of volunteers for this event to happen. Please sign up. The walls are going to be re-set Saturday night, so kids who are climbing on Sunday WILL be allowed in the gym on Saturday. This is an excellent chance for them to get volunteer hours. There is a training video for route judges available on the sign-up page. The powers that be keep track of which team provides the most volunteer hours, so we need to step up. Again, please sign up
